Product Introduction

The holes in the discharge liner of a wet grate ball mill are arranged at an angle, gradually increasing in width toward the discharge end to prevent slurry backflow and blockage by coarse particles. At the lower discharge end, the slurry flows through the holes in the grate liner into the fan-shaped chamber, where it then flows upward through the cylinder and is discharged through the holes. The hollow shaft neck is lined with a wear-resistant inner sleeve, and one end features a trumpet-shaped blade to guide the slurry out of the mill. Because the slurry is discharged through the grate discharge mechanism, this type of mill is called a wet grate ball mill.

Operating Principle

The general structure of a wet grate ball mill consists of a cylinder, cylinder liner, large gear ring, discharge grate, and feeder. With the exception of a discharge grate plate installed at the discharge end, the mill is similar to an overflow ball mill. The discharge end cap and grate structure of a wet grate ball mill are shown in the figure. The mill consists of a grate liner, bearing sleeve, hollow shaft journal, dustpan-shaped liner, center liner, ribs, and wedges.

The DMG Heavy Machinery wet grate ball mill operates primarily through a transmission mechanism that slowly rotates the cylinder. Material is fed into the cylinder through the feed end. Inside the cylinder, the material is crushed by the impact of the falling steel balls and the ore itself, as well as by self-grinding. The continuous feeding of material creates pressure that causes the material in the cylinder to move from the feed end to the discharge end. The material reaching the final particle size is discharged from the discharge end of the cylinder. During wet grinding, the material is carried out by the water flow; during dry grinding, it is carried out by the air flow. The mill has a discharge grate at the discharge end, which uses the grate to force the ore out. This keeps the slurry level low inside the cylinder, reducing over-grinding and preventing the discharge of steel balls.
